About CERNIS PRO
The name “CERNIS” is Latin and means “you see, you recognise, you distinguish” — and, in a wider sense, “you decide”. The word is in the second person: it does not say “the program sees”, but “you see”. That is exactly the point. CERNIS shows you your network, helps you tell the essential from the noise — and leaves the judgement to you.
CERNIS PRO was built by a single developer with a long IT background.
Why CERNIS PRO exists
At the start there was a very concrete need of my own: I was looking for a tool for my Mac that would scan my home network and show me, in an understandable way, which devices are there and what they reveal. What I found did not convince me — usable tools quickly became expensive or hid behind a subscription model, others had technical weaknesses or were simply questionable from a privacy point of view.
Out of that disappointment grew a project. I have been engaging very actively with artificial intelligence for some time — privately and professionally; CERNIS PRO began as a serious training ground for AI-assisted software development. From this a first version emerged: a genuinely usable, cross-platform network scanner with a handful of well-thought-out extra functions for observing the home network.
From the first idea to the rebuild
What began as a practice project outgrew itself. With growing experience in AI-assisted development and valuable input from a circle of experienced fellow developers, I began to rebuild CERNIS PRO from the ground up.
This time the way it was built came first, not last: a clearly layered architecture whose boundaries are monitored automatically, continuous quality assurance and a documented security review, carried out by the project itself. Many new ideas came with it.
The result is the edition available today — a tool that sets out to meet the demands of a serious network observer in the semi-professional space: deep enough for professionals, understandable enough for interested non-experts.
The idea that stays
The initial disappointment has become the guiding principle: the truth about a network belongs to whoever runs it — along with the decision about what follows from it. No forced subscription, no black box. Exactly the tool I myself was missing back then.
Who is behind it
For more than 25 years I have worked professionally on building and securing IT infrastructures, some of them business-critical — with a focus on databases and adjacent fields such as networking, security and cloud architecture. It is the same demand for care and reliability I know from that world that also sits inside CERNIS PRO.
That a person with this background stands behind the tool is no accident but by design: software that observes the user’s network and touches security questions deserves transparency about where it comes from. Anyone using such a tool should know who built it and with what intent — rather than having to trust a profit-driven vendor with unclear interests.
